As the President of Soroptimist International Club of Seremban,
I condemn this barbaric act. Just as we walked on the streets to stop violence
against women last month, we are faced with yet another act of violence against
a helpless woman. Enough of rhetorics about channeling our emotion into a more
constructive course of action. We need to come out of our comfort zones and
ivory towers. The victim could be your daughter, wife, sister or mother. Time
to rise up !
Damini is
a symbolic name given to the 23 year old victim, taken from a Hindi movie about
a woman fighting for justice against society for a rape victim. It is important
for women to raise their collective voice, but it should be for all women and
all victims of the violence embedded in our society !
