Postscript : I prepared and delivered the speech below in 2011. That was the first time I delivered a political speech in mandarin. I have to thank Mrs Tan Fu Tee for her guidance. She even told me the day before the fateful day that if she was me, she would not dare to deliver the speech alluding at my not too perfect delivery.
I am also attracted by what I wrote, especially the part on divine timing. This can complement what I was trying to convey when I used Euripides' "Whom the God would destroy, they first make mad". We have to really grab this divine timing !
Bukit Kepayang Dinner 2011
Hitler used to share with his closest friends that "what luck for rulers
that men do not think". For the past 55 years, Malaysians have been too
apathetic and kind as we endured one bad leader after another (逆來順受). Allowed the rotten government to turn into bad government.
From a bad government to a nasty government. From a nasty government to a
wicked government. A government that practices political oppression (政治迫害) ; corruption (腐敗);
abuse of power (濫權) and
allow wastages to happen. We allowed these bad leaders to dupe us one general
elections after another. We used to be a rich country. Our Ringgit was stronger
than Singapore Dollar. Now, the Rakyats are suffering. 1 SGD is now RM 2.5!
There are not enough jobs to go around. We need to come out of the matrix or
vicious cycle (离开恶性的循环)
and into a new cycle of change in order to save our future generation. 55 years
of deception and oppression is enough.
Suddenly, 308 (the 12th General Elections) happened. 308 shook BN's strong
foundation. 308 gave an opportunity to the opposition to prove that Pakatan can
be a better government than BN. For eg, Penang. CM Lim Guan Eng's CAT
principles (Competency, Accountability and Transparency) has become a model for
all the other states to follow. Pakatan's prudent management managed to put Penang
and Selangor in the top 3 in the Auditor-General's report card for the highest
savings and highest FDI (Foreign Direct Investment). This report card was not
written by Pakatan but by the Auditor-General.
Suddenly, Arab Spring happened. Middle Eastern countries like Tunisia, Egypt,
Libya, Bahrain, Syria and Yemen experienced a regime change like a domino
effect. Such strong and powerful leaders/despots like Gaddafi, Mubarak etc all
fell one by one. The Arab Spring has caught the imagination of the masses and
has influenced many people to be agents of change.
Suddenly, the world economic crisis happened. USA, such a superpower, was at
the verge of bankruptcy. They printed more money. Still not enough money. So,
they had QE1 and QE2 and perhaps, QE3 in order to salvage themselves. Malaysia is also facing the same
problem. Our national debts now stands at RM502 billion and counting. Our PM,
Najib asked us not to panic as Malaysia was quite different from Middle East.
Who is he kidding but himself? This situation can be likened to a divine
timing. As the chinese saying goes, 天时地利人和, 天時地利人和.
It simply means “the right time, the right place, and the right people” (more
literally “heavenly timing, location advantage, and human harmony”).
We must make use of this golden opportunity. A divine timing which does not
happen very often, to use our valuable votes for a change. UBAH !
On the Sept 15th, 2011, Najib made a "groundbreaking" announcement in
his Malaysia Day's speech. He said the government shall repeal the 3 Emergency
Declarations and the draconian statutes like ISA, Printing Presses and
Publications Act and Banishment Act. These are BN's powerful weapons (致命的武器) to curb opposition and Rakyats who do not accept the government's policies. Why should BN
take away these powerful weapons (自廢武功) ? First reason is for BN's political survival. Like the lizard's
survival skill. The lizard will shed its tail in order to escape for its
predator/death (斷尾求生).
Second reason is because Pakatan denied BN their 2/3rds majority in Parliament.
After 308, BN is no more all-powerful. BN has to listen to the Rakyats' voices.
BN has to heed the opposition's demands for the Rakyats. Beware ! If we allow
BN to win (過關) the next
general elections (臉型披露)
then they will use more powerful weapons against us (我們就倒黴). We need to have a stronger two party system with check and
balance or a regime change to avoid absolute power falling into any one party's
hands.

ReplyDeleteEven govt servants are no longer afraid to speak their minds.
During a dialogue session the Chief Secretary had with the civil service and agencies, one teacher asked why Labuan such a small island needed another 18-hole golf course.
He expressed his exasperation of no response to his request for a bus shelter which he wrote to the authorities dated year 2011. Four schools located in the said area, which have a combined student population of easily 3,000.
He even went on to say BN might stand to lose 6,000 votes from the parents of the students.
Loud applause exploded at the end of his brief statement.
But i won't be too optimistic of Pakatan able to knock out BN.
Cheang from Labuan
Hitler used to share with his closest friends that "what luck for rulers that men do not think". Funny you wrote that.
ReplyDeleteNicole. You said "Lynas effect is as bad as nuclear reactor" confirm without any doubt DAP do not want the Raykat to think. You want the Raykat to wrongly think Lynas is as bad as nuclear reactor when it's like comparing a baby with a 700 pounds gorilla. If you wanted proof of what I said, just give a call to your Pakatan colleague PAS MP by the name of Chi Rosli a call. He is a nuclear scientist and see he laugh his heads off at your ridiculous claim of Lynas effect is as bad as nuclear reactor. Go on. Give him a call if you dare.
The reality is, you can't fool real nuclear scientist like Chi Rosli and Raykat like me who have done their homework on radiation. Like Abraham Lincoln said, you can't fool all the people all the time.
Yes, there is nothing worst than for someone to condemn what Hitler said and yet doing the exact thing themselves. Misleading the Raykat that a baby (Lynas) is as bad as a 700 pound gorilla (Fukushima nuclear reactor) fits the bill perfectly.
DeleteOr may be someone didn't want Nicole to do her own thinking?
Anon above, why do u keep pounding on Lynas? why pick on Nicole for opposing Lynas? I also against Lynas. Am i misled by DAP?
ReplyDeleteI had argued many times that govt's lack of culture of maintenance as reason for apprehension.
Let me put to you again that experts presented with same facts and data do not necessarily agree.
In the highest court, a quorum of judges sit on the bench to decide a controversial case. They hear the same arguments and presented by same lawyers of both sides.
Yet why judges split in their decision?
So please don't assume you are always right and only you are right while those who disagree with you have self interest.
Cheang from Labuan
Cheang. If you ask 10 qualified nuclear scientists, all 10 will laugh when you said "Lynas effect is as bad as nuclear reactor" regarding radiation. So there is zero split decision on that ridiculous claim. So your example of different judges having different opinion does not applies in this case. Don't take my word for it, go ask them yourself. This is how ridiculous is Nicole's claim about nuclear reactor.
ReplyDeleteAnd if you still wanted proof that Lynas is simply being politicized and nothing to do with radiation, do you know there is for many years a factory in Penang doing exactly the same thing as Lynas of extracting metal from imported metal ore and producing the same radioactive waste as Lynas? I bet you don't and I am sure Nicole don't want you to think about that factory. Hence I find it laughable when she criticize Hitler idea of not wanting people to think.
Anon, are u implying Nicole influenced me???
ReplyDeleteCheang from Labuan
Cheang. Do you agree with Nicole's claim of "Lynas effect is as bad as nuclear reactor" in term of radiation? There is your answer.
DeleteI believe many who walk from Kuantan to Parliament believe Lynas is as bad as nuclear reactor. Now who put that crazy thought into their head?
Anon, Anon, u like small child. Just cos i think alike with Nicole, i become her kaki.
DeleteGrow up, if two persons can be agreeable on same thing for different reasons.
Anon, u are very judgemental and have tunnel vision.
Cheang from Labuan
Cheang. I am not being judgmental but simply stating indisputable scientific fact. It's as scientific as stating the sun will always rise from the East and the world is not flat. Like I said, if you can find a qualified nuclear scientist who will agree with you & Nicole that Lynas radiation is as bad as nuclear reactor, I can find you a cow that can fly. That's a promise.
ReplyDeleteAs I said so many time already, don't take my word for it. Go find a scientist and ask him that crazy question of yours and Nicole. That's because when comparing radiation, one is a baby and the other a 700 pound gorilla. Surely one is relatively harmless compared to the other one. No?
Those who think Lynas radiation is as drastic as nuclear reactor must be reading textbook that does not exist in this modern world. Or never read any textbook on radiation before. Apparently there are quite a lot of people like that.
ReplyDeleteAnon, come on lah. science is not absolute as u make it out to be. What is held to be the ultimate truth in science can become a passing fad tomorrow.
ReplyDeleteNot too long ago, it was held that chocolates was bad for health and considered sinful, but today it is a health food.
But again, science today is influenced by commercialism. Its a money, money world.
If rare earth is as safe as you believe to be, the scientist should be awarded a Nobel Peace.
Why? Because it is useful to make many of the electronic gadgets which the world cannot do without. Big, big money.
It's time we go back to the basics. Focus on the basic needs for mankind. We can't eat products, but food. We are getting too consumerists.
During Mahathir's reign, agriculture took a backseat in his rush to industrialise. What is happening now is that our food import bills have reach dizzying heights and we are now vulnerable to world prices of even rice which we were once quite sufficient.
Mahathir used to say that we were rich enough to buy food from poorer countries.
Cheang from Labuan
Cheang. Forgive for saying but you have extremely poor grasp of science. To say Lynas radiation is as bad as nuclear reactor is pure lies and proof Nicole do not want people to think. This is because radiation is MEASURABLE (think hard what this word means). If you want to dispute this scientific fact, you are also saying 10 meters is as long as 700 meters. Do you now see how ridiculous is Nicole's claim?
ReplyDeleteNow I am merely saying Lynas radiation is far far less and hence less dangerous than nuclear reactor radiation. Nobody ever said radiation is not dangerous. And do you know that your body also emit radiation but in very small amount? Just because your body emit radiation, are you now going to say you are also as dangerous as Lynas and nuclear reactor? Now you again see how ridiculous is Nicole's claim.
Anon, haha, u sound like the high priest of science. If anyone not for you must be against u.
ReplyDeleteWe have been arguing in circles because u refuse to accept my contention of questionable record of maintenance by malaysian authorities.
Palm oil mill is as safe as can be. But many rivers are polluted with effluent from discharge. This is happening in Sabah.
Am also saying that science can be manipulated to serve commercial interests.
Drugs which is science-based is supposed to save lives. Take statin, for eg, hailed as a wonder drug for lowering cholesterol. But it has been abused that it has so many side effects that outweigh the benefits.
I am arguing on the human frailty for greed of profit. Do u get me? I guess u are all out to win an argument. So it is a waste of time because i have to again and again argue on same points.
U are a very tiresome fella.
Cheang from Labuan
Cheang.
DeleteI did some quick checking.
Chernobyl nuclear reactor disaster. Radiation at vicinity of core is 300 Sv/hr or 2,628,000 Sv/year. Nearby is 0.1 Sv/hr or 876 Sv/year.
Lynas worst case disaster was quoted at 0.002 mSv/year or 0.000002 Sv/year.
Therefore nuclear reactor is 438 million to 1,314,000 million times more radioactive than Lynas.
No wonder Nicole do not want people to think. Because if they do, they will find the claim "Lynas as bad as nuclear reactor" to be absolute nonsense in terms of radiation. Hence finding Nicole's quote about Hitler "what luck for rulers that men do not think" to be so hypocritical.
Cheang. You still don't get it and have zero knowledge of science. Something are measurable (for example, how heavy is an object in kilogram or how long is a road in kilometer etc) and some are not. Take these examples.
ReplyDelete1. A 800 kg Kancil car is lighter than a 10 tons Hino truck.
2. Lynas radiation level is far far less and deadly than a nuclear reactor radiation level. It's like comparing a baby with a 700 pound gorilla.
For reason still a mystery to me, and using both Nicole and your logic, Kancil is as heavy as Hino and therefore Lynas as dangerous as nuclear reactor in terms of radiation. Don't need to be a high priest of science to tell that's nonsense.
I suggest you pick up some basic secondary school textbook on radiation and start reading and thinking.
I, like you, wouldn't know the competency of AELB that oversees Lynas. But both BN and Lim Guan Eng both said AELB is competent.
And here is my big worry about Pakatan. If they could say to the Raykat a 800 kg Kancil car is as heavy as a Hino truck (Lynas as dangerous as nuclear reactor), what sort of people are these? Are they liar and as bad as BN or are they 3 years old kids who have never studied science or what? Should we let some ignorant 3 years old run the country?
DeleteWhy u put words into my mouth? i not arguing on science but ethics.
ReplyDeletei try to respect u but u so pompous and always right. so u wanna win, u win lah.
u so dead against pakatan, it is yr problem.
To say Lynas radiation is as drastic as nuclear reactor is similar to saying the world is flat. Nicole and her Pakatan is trying to hoodwink clueless people who know nothing about radiation. In reality, the amount of radiation in nuclear reactor is actually hundreds of million time more deadly than Lynas radiation. And yes, you can actually measure radiation just like you can measure distance in kilometer. It's not a subjective thing like ethic. And there is not a single nuclear scientist in this world who would say Lynas radiation is as bad as nuclear reactor. Period. And you expect people to give you 2 respect for making these ridiculous and stupid statement? In front of nuclear scientist, by not laughing their heads off at your ignorance is already giving you face and you still don't know it.
ReplyDeleteLike I say, go read up on secondary school textbook on radiation and don't talk about respect until you have done your homework on radiation and know what is radiation.
I am not dead against Pakatan. I am only dead against lies and doesn't matter who made it, BN or Pakatan. I am Hitler and Nicole's nightmare because I do think.
Comparing Lynas with Chernobyl is not fair. Shud be
ReplyDeletewith Asian Rare Earth in Perak. Radiation from rare
earth waste are not as strong as the radiation from
uranium in a reactor. Nevertheless prolonged exposure is still harmful. We are interested in the
waste management.Radiation are strong from rare earth waste as it is concentrated. Now where are
Lynas dumping the waste?
Annoy. Nicole will not be pleased with you because you actually use your brain to think unlike Cheang of Labuan. Nicole and her gang wanted people to believe Lynas radiation is as bad as nuclear reactor but you & I know that is absolute nonsense.
DeleteYes, ARE is a better comparison. ARE is a bad failure but failure should not be reason to stop doing anything. Otherwise human will still be living in cave nowadays. Every modern gadget around us are result of failure from the Edison's light bulb to aircraft. By opposing Lynas based on lies, you could say Pakatan wanted Malaysian to reject science and technology and go back to living in age of no technology. I think they called that the "dark ages".
To me, for Lynas, it all depends on our Atomic Energy Licencing Board able to do her job professionally and I don't know how good or bad they are. But both BN and Pakatan did said AELB is very professional. Are you suggesting both BN and Pakatan are not to be trusted?
